Consider certification as a Legal Assistant or Paralegal (CLA or CP) by taking NALA's Certified Legal Assistant/Certified Paralegal Examination. This intensive computerized examination will test your basic skills and legal knowledge. The examination consists of five (5) sections: Communications, Ethics, Legal Research, Judgment & Analytical Ability, and Substantive Law (American Legal System, Business Organizations, Civil Litigation, and Contracts). On April 30, 2014, The National Commission for Certifying Agencies (NCCA) granted accreditation to the NALA Certified Paralegal program for demonstrating compliance with the NCCA Standards for the Accreditation of Certification Programs. NCCA is the accrediting body of the Institute for Credentialing Excellence. The NCCA Standards were created to ensure certification programs adhere to modern standards of practice for the certification industry. The NALA Certified Paralegal program joins an elite group of more than 120 organizations representing over 270 certification programs that have received and maintained NCCA accreditation.
Advanced Certified Paralegal (ACP)
Advanced Paralegal Certification (ACP) is available to those with a current Certified Paralegal (CP) certification. APC courses are developed by NALA’S APC Board. According to NALA, “paralegals who have a valid Certified Paralegal credential from NALA and successfully complete an APC Course are awarded use of the ACP credential to signify this outstanding achievement. In addition, Certified Paralegals may also receive 20 hours of continuing legal education credit for completion of an advanced program. For the Personal Injury program, 20 hours of credit is awarded for completion of the Personal Injury Core Course; 10 hours is awarded for completion of a Personal Injury practice area course.”
